Kim Petras’ debut project and unofficial body of work are “Era 1.” The project began in 2017 with Kim’s debut single “I Don’t Want It At All,” and nine more singles were released on a regular basis until the final single “1,2,3 dayz up” was released in 2019 when Kim confirmed that his first project was finished.

Following her initial success, Petras released a series of digital singles that became her unofficial body of work known as Era 1. Turn Off, Petras’ new Halloween-themed EP, was released on October 1, 2018. Vol. 1 of The Light. Ella Clarity’s debut studio album, Ella Clarity, was released on June 28, 2019.

Beginnings in Kim Petras’s life

Kim Petras was born and raised in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Kim’s parents recalled that when she was two years old, she began insisting on being a girl, and her parents realized that this was not a phase of realizing she was transgender. Her parents were supportive, but she was required to wear gender-neutral clothing in public.

Eventually, her parents sought assistance with her transition but were unable to locate professionals who were knowledgeable about the subject. They finally found Bernd Meyenburg at the University of Frankfurt, who had been the head of a children’s clinic and had studied transsexuality since the 1970s, after a long search.

Kim became a global icon in 2006 when she described her transition on the German television show Stern TV. Kim would later appear in a documentary and talk show in 2007 as an impetus for sex reassignment surgery to be performed at 16, as German law had him at 18 at the time.

The publicity generated by Many news articles about her gender transition at the age of 12 and her status as the “youngest transsexual in the world” arose as a result of her 2007 TV appearances. However, this statement is incorrect because gender identity disorder is frequently diagnosed in early childhood, and transition by children under the age of 12 is not uncommon. Petras, on the other hand, may have been among the youngest people receiving female hormone treatments at the time.

In September 2007, she worked as a model for a national German hairdressing chain. Petras turned 16 in 2008, and in a November 2008 blog post, she announced that she had recently completed her gender reassignment surgery. The story broke in early February 2009, implying that Petras may be the world’s youngest person to have undergone gender reassignment surgery. “They asked me if I feel like a woman now,” she said of her surgery, “but the truth is that I always felt like a woman, I just ended up in the wrong body.”

Kim Petras’s musical career

Kim Petras has always had a passion for music, and she has been writing her own songs since she was about 12 years old. Fabian Goerg produced her first known release, the 2008 double single “Fade Away” and “When Dreams Come True.” Petras released several singles digitally the following year, but they received little attention on the Internet.

After a brief hiatus, Kim released her first EP, One Piece of Tape, in 2011, which included the single-track title. Petras worked with producers such as The Stereotypes and Aaron Joseph in his music career throughout 2013, and he also released a song called “STFU” on his SoundCloud page in 2013. As of July 2013, Petras was ranked No. 19 on the Billboard Artists Chart, with a chart of artists in development, for his contributions to social media.

“One Piece of Tape” was recorded in Germany at a time when it was gaining media attention for its early gender transition. It was Kim’s first professional body of work, and it was available at the time on iTunes and Amazon. The EP, however, is not considered an official work because Kim removed it from her catalog and it is no longer available for legal streaming or downloading.

Petras released her debut single “I Don’t Want It at All” in August 2017. The song charted on Spotify’s Viral Global. The song’s accompanying music video debuted on Vevo in October and features a cameo by Paris Hilton.

In the same month, Spotify named Kim Petras as one of four Artists of ‘RISE‘, a “program designed to identify and break the next wave of music superstars.” Petras was named “most likely to dominate the charts” by Paper magazine at the end of 2017 and appeared on Charli XCX’s Pop 2 mixtape for the song “Unlock It” Jay Park. Petras released four more singles in the same year, titled Era 1, “Hillside Boys,” “Hills,” “Slow It Down,” and “Faded.”

The video for Kim Petras single “Faded,” featuring Lil Aaron, directed by Nicholas Harwood, premiered on Noisey in January 2018. To commemorate Valentine’s Day, Petras released the break-up-inspired “Heart to Break” in February. On February 19, the song made its radio debut on BBC Radio 1.

While the single “continues to maintain Petras’s cheery and cheeky pop sound… [it] ventures into new territory for the songwriter,” according to Billboard’s Bryan Kress. That same month, Petras released a few singles exclusively on Spotify Singles through BunHead Records, Petras’ own label. It featured live performances of “Hills” “as performed at his NYC Studio.

Petras released Turn Off the Light, vol. 1, a Halloween-themed EP, on October 1, 2018. Elvira makes a guest appearance on the project, which was seen as a departure from the typical Petras sound. The EP peaked at number 21 on Billboard’s US Heatseekers Album Chart and the US Independent Albums Chart.

The project was inspired by the song “Close Your Eyes.” “Because I thought the song was strong, I wanted to do a project with similar sounds. ‘Wait, is there a Halloween album or EP or…?’ we wondered along the way.” We were perplexed when we realized there were almost none! There is a lot of Christmas music, but my favorite holiday is Halloween, so that’s the real reason for it.” – Kim stated recently in an interview.

On the mixtape, which he said he enjoys listening to, “Petras’ music has previously been “very bright and bubblegum, which I love… but I love all kinds of music and I have different sides to me.” And I feel like this is how I’m demonstrating to people that I’m not just extremely sugary, even if I do have sugary moments.” – Kim stated in an interview for a reputable publication.

Petras then announced plans to release a single every month in preparation for his debut album. In November 2018, she was featured on the Cheat Codes song “Feeling of Falling.” Kim released two more singles that year, “Can’t Do Better” and “All The Time.”

Petras announced the end of his Era 1 project in February 2019 with the release of three singles titled “1,2,3 Dayz Up” with Sophie, “If U Think About Me…”, and “Homework” with Lil Aaron. On Twitter, that is.

Clarity, Petras’ debut album, was released on June 28, 2019. Petras released one song per week in May and June, leading up to the album’s release. Petras embarked on the 24-city Broken Tour in North America and Europe in June.

Despite public outrage, Petras continued to collaborate with Dr. Luke. The album was preceded by promotional singles such as “All I Do Is Cry” and “Sweet Spot,” and it was accompanied on its release date by the lead single, “Icy.”

Turn Off the Light, vol. 2 was announced by Petras in August, and it was later revealed that it would be released as an album on October 1, 2019, a year after the first installment.

“TURN OFF THE LIGHT” is German singer Kim Petras’s second Halloween mixtape. It was released on October 1, 2019, as the follow-up to Petras’ first EP, TURN OFF THE LIGHT, VOL. 1, which was released a year before. The album includes nine new songs in addition to all of the tracks from the vol. 1 EP.
