Loretta Sage (Sandra Bullock), a brilliant but lonely writer, has spent the majority of her career writing about exotic locations in her very popular adventure and romance novels, which feature the handsome model Alan (Channing Tatum) on the cover, who has dedicated her life to personifying the character of the hero “Dash.”

Loretta is kidnapped while on a promotional tour for her new book with Alan by an eccentric billionaire (Daniel Radcliffe) in the hope that she will show him the way to the hidden treasure of the city that she describes in her latest book.

Alan decides to go to his rescue in order to demonstrate that he can be a real-life hero rather than just one in a book.
