R Madhavan and Chetan Bhagat got into a Twitter feud, which turned out to be a publicity stunt for their show, Decoupled.
Actor Madhavan and author Chetan Bhagat got into a playful spat, which later turned out to be a publicity stunt for the recently released Netflix show, Decoupled. In the series, Madhavan, who plays India’s second-best-selling author, is constantly pitted against Chetan, who plays himself.
It all started when Chetan tweeted, “My books, and the movies based on them,” in response to a question about movies vs. books. Madhavan stated that he favours films, to which the author responded, “Have you ever heard anyone say that the movie is better than the book?”
“YES! “Three Idiots,” Madhavan responded, using several laughing emoticons. The film was based on Chetan’s book Five Point Someone, in which he played an engineering student. Chetan asked Madhavan not to ‘preach to the choir.’ “You’re showing off 3 Idiots to me?” Don’t try to preach to the choir; perhaps you should read my books.” The actor inquired of the author why he acted in Decoupled if he was a bookworm.

Chetan stated that he would rather be known by his name than as ‘Farhan from that one movie.’ “I’m not just known as Farhan,” Madhavan replied. I’m also known as Manu from Tanu Weds Manu, Kartikh from Alaipayuthey, and my personal favorite, Maddy kyunki mein rehta hoon sab ke dil mein (I live in everyone’s hearts).” The final line alluded to his debut Bollywood film, Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein.
Madhavan and Chetan ended their verbal brawl on a friendly note. “WOW, if this were a writing test, I’d say you aced it.” But, to be honest, what did you think of my Netflix debut?” Chetan penned the piece. Madhavan joked that the author, like his books, is ‘better on the big screen,’ but added that he was ‘brilliant’ in the show.
