Pankaj Kapur Biography
Childhood
Pankaj Kapur was born in Ludhiana, Punjab, on May 29, 1954. He finished his education in Punjab and grew up strongly interested in theatre and acting. To pursue his interest, he enrolled in the National School of Drama.
Career
After graduating from the National School of Drama, he worked in theatre for four years until Richard Attenborough offered him a role in Gandhi. He has directed over 74 plays and serials, including Office Office, Karamchand, Mungerilal Ke Haseen Sapne, and Zabaan Sambhalke.
First marriage of Pankaj Kapur
Neelima Azim is Pankaj Kapur’s first wife. Pankaj and Neelima met when actors used to do theatre, and Neelima wanted to make a name for herself in the dance world. She was a skilled Kathak dancer. Pankaj Kapoor and Neelima became good friends from their first meeting, and they had no idea when this friendship turned into love. Soon after, both of them decided to marry. They married in 1975 when Pankaj Kapur was 21, and Neelima was only 16.
Got divorced
After their marriage, Neelima Kapoor gave birth to her son Shahid Kapoor in 1981. Pankaj and Neelima’s relationship began to deteriorate only after this. The fight between the two became so heated that they eventually decided to split up. Pankaj Kapur divorced from his first wife, Neelima, in 1984. Their marriage lasted only nine years before Neelima moved to Delhi with her son Shahid. However, Neelima now resides in Mumbai.
Supriya Pathak
Supriya Pathak entered Pankaj Kapur’s life after he divorced Neelima Azim. The two first met on the set of the film ‘Naya Mausam,’ which has yet to be released, in 1986. Supriya was divorced when she met Pankaj Kapur. In such a situation, they began to enjoy each other’s company. Pankaj Kapur and Supriya Pathak, on the other hand, did not rush their wedding. Both gave their relationship some time, and there were many meetings between Pankaj and Supriya during this time, after which both decided to marry.
