Nina Dobrev (born Nikolina Constantinova Dobreva on January 9, 1989) is an American actress. Nina turns 33 today, and we’re taking advantage of the occasion to dig deeper into her life.
Nina Dobrev was born in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia. She is best known for her roles on The CW’s The Vampire Diaries as Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce. Before making her debut in 2006, she attended the Dean Armstron Acting School and worked as a model. She was discovered by various talent agencies while studying at the Dean Armstron Acting School, and she began her career as a model. She quickly began appearing in commercials and auditioning for film roles. As a result of this, she landed her first role in the telefilm Playing House (2006), directed by Kelly Makin, and in the film Away from Her (2006), directed by Sarah Polley, alongside Julie Christie and Michael Murphy.
Nina Dobrev’s professional career
Shortly after her debut, she landed her first recurring role as Mia Jones on the show Degrassi: The Next Generation (2006-09). Between 2007 and 2008, she would act in the spin-off Degrassi: Minis. She managed to make a name for herself at the time, starring in films such as The Poet (2007), in which she co-starred with Zachary Bennett; Too Young to Marry (2007), in which she co-starred with Dillon Casey; Fugitive Pieces (2007), in which she co-starred with Monika Schurmann; and My Daughter’s Secret (2007), in which she co-starred with Jennifer Grant. In 2009, Nina Dobrev was cast in the role that would propel her to fame, that of Elena Gilbert, the doppelgänger of her Katherine Pierce in The Vampire Diaries, a popular The CW series. She also appeared in Let’s Be Cops (2014), alongside Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr., and The Final Girls (2015), alongside Malin Akerman and Adam Devine.
Nina Dobrev co-starred in the remake, Deadly Line: To the Limit (2017), alongside Ellen Page, Diego Luna, and James Norton, as computer expert Becky Clearidge in xXx: Reactivated, with Vin Diesel, Ruby Rose, and Chris Wu (former member of EXO) as protagonists.
She then appeared in Dog Days (2018), co-written by Vanessa Hudgens, and Then Came You (2018), co-written by Asa Butterfield and Maisie Williams. She recently debuted Ricky Tollman’s Run This Town (2019) and CBS’s Fam.
Personal life of Nina Dobrev
Nina Dobrev was Ian Somerhalder’s Vampire Diaries partner for three years. In a recent interview, she stated that she did not get along with Paul Wesley during the first few months of filming, but that everything changed over time.
