Jennifer Hudson was the big winner at the NAACP Image Awards. It’s the bright spot in an otherwise gloomy week!
Jennifer Hudson was named Best Actress for her portrayal of Aretha Franklin in “Respect.” She was also named Entertainer of the Year. And she deserved every single one of them. No one has worked harder in the last year. Bravo!
Netflix’s “The Harder They Fall” beat out “King Richard” for Best Motion Picture. Will Smith, however, won Best Actor for his performance as Richard Williams, the father of Serena and Venus Williams.
For “Blackish,” Anthony Anderson was named Best Actor in a TV Comedy. Issa Rae won Best Actress for her performance in “Insecure.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle attended to receive an honorarium. They gave a large sum of money from their Archewell Foundation, and they will now give a joint award every year.
In the In Memoriam section of the NAACP Image Awards, there was a glaring omission. I’m not sure if it was on purpose, but they omitted the great Sidney Miller, king of Black radio, who died recently at the age of 89. Here’s a link to the New York Times obituary, which was published A MONTH late. Disgraceful. But it’s even more disgraceful that the NAACP forgot about him.
Also, singer Mary J. Blige performed on the show, and she was incredible.
