Rakim Mayers, better known as A$AP Rocky, was detained at Los Angeles International Airport on Wednesday in connection with a shooting in November 2021, according to multiple law enforcement sources familiar with the situation.
A$AP Rocky was flying in on a private jet from Barbados, where he had spent time with his girlfriend, singer Rihanna.
Alan Jackson, Mayers’ attorney, acknowledged that his client had been detained.
Mayers was being investigated by the Los Angeles Police Departments for a gunshot that occurred at 10:20 p.m. on Nov. 6 near Vista Del Mar and Selma Ave. The shooting victim later told police that Mayers approached him on the street with a handgun while he was walking with two others. According to police investigations, the victim stated Mayers fired at him three to four times and that one of the bullets touched his left hand.
A$AP Rocky infamous cases
A$AP Rocky has had multiple run-ins with the authorities over the years. He was arrested in 2012 after a street fight with photographers in New York City (he later pleaded guilty to attempted grand larceny), and he faced charges in 2013 after allegedly slapping a fan at the Made in America Festival (while the case was dismissed, the victim later filed a civil suit against Mayers that was settled in 2015).
Perhaps most infamously, A$AP Rockywas detained in Sweden for several weeks in 2019 following an incident in Stockholm; while he was arrested in late June, it took nearly a month for charges to be officially filed. Mayers was finally found guilty, despite the fact that the court had postponed the verdict by two weeks, releasing Mayers and the other two defendants from detention and allowing them to return to the United States.
