Mamaearth was launched in 2016 by Varun and Ghazal. In a 2018 interview, Ghazal mentioned that they founded the brand after attempting to find safe items for their son Agastya.
“It all started three years ago with the birth of our kid, Agastya,” she explained. We recognized the demand for safe products and their scarcity in the Indian market. We asked our friends and family travelling abroad to bring us natural items. And we weren’t alone; we encountered a large number of folks who were doing the same thing. That’s when we decided to scour the Indian market for the most incredible ingredients and safety requirements for our baby. We resolved to take matters into our own hands, not just for our babies but for all babies everywhere. That is how Mamaearth was born.”
