Deven Verma Biography and his journey

Deven Verma was a well-known comedian and character artist of Hindi films in Indian cinema. He had made the audience laugh with his performance in the films.

He made his debut in Hindi cinema with the 1961 film Dharmaputra. He acted in around 149 films like Angoor, Golmaal, Khatta Meetha, Kora Kagaz, Kabhi Kabhi, Rang Birangi etc.

Deven was the son-in-law of Superstar Ashok Kumar. Directed films like Dana Pani, Besharam, Bada Kabutar and Nadaan. He was awarded the Filmfare Best Comedian Award thrice. So come today in this article we will tell you about the biography of Deven Verma.

Birth

Deven Verma was born on 23 October 1936 in Mumbai and brought up in Pune. His father Baldev Singh Verma had a silver business. His mother Sarala Devi belonged to Kutch, Gujrat.

He had four sisters, two elder and two younger. His two younger sisters were twins.

He married Roopa Ganguly, the second daughter of Bollywood actor Late Ashok Kumar.

Education

Deven Verma graduated with Honors in Politics and Sociology from Noroj Wadia College for Arts and Science, the University of Pune from 1953 to 1957.

He made his debut in Hindi cinema with the 1961 film Dharmaputra. This movie was made under the B. R. banner. It was directed by Yash Chopra. He had a small role in this film, which did not get much attention.

His performance in the 1964 film ‘Suhagan’ caught the eye of the producers gracefully. He had a negative role in the film ‘Deewar’, then he played a comic role in the second film ‘Mohabbat Zindagi Hai’. Both the films were successful at the box office.

This timing was crucial for Deven Verma. He had to choose between comedy or villainy. He showed his interest in comedy. The biggest feature of Deven Verma’s acting was that he used to get into the character very easily. He did not come to film life only to act rather he also produced and directed movies.

Death

After quitting movies Deven shifted to Pune with his family. Deven Verma died on 2 December 2014 due to a heart attack at the age of 77.
