Drew Scott of Property Brothers and his wife Linda Phan are expecting a child

Drew Scott and Linda Phan are about to have their first child!

The Property Brothers actor and his wife of nearly four years (and partner of nearly 12) are expecting their first child together, according to PEOPLE.

“Everyone, the cat is out of the bag. Linda is expecting!” Scott revealed this on the couple’s podcast, At Home, which aired on Tuesday.

Since their wedding in 2018, the HGTV personality and podcast producer have frequently discussed their desire to conceive a family. They received positive news in August after a two-year reproductive odyssey that included IUI and IVF treatments, and they are now planning to welcome a child in May 2022.

In a joint Instagram post on Tuesday morning, Scott and Phan shared two mirror shots of her growing baby bulge. “I guess we’re going to have weekly bathroom selfies now,” they joked in the post before thanking the doctors, family, and friends who helped them through the ordeal. “It made a difficult time in our lives more bearable,” they wrote.

They also expressed their hope that being transparent about their own journey to parenting will help others. “It’s been an adventure getting here! We recognize that we are not alone in this journey, and that everyone’s is packed with unique hurdles along the route “They penned. “We hope that as we progress through this, one of you reading this will feel a little less lonely on whatever journey you’re on!”

Scott and Phan documented the ups and downs of the IVF process in a short but emotional vlog, including Scott giving Phan shots in her stomach while she hides her face in a pillow, doctors visits and tears, but also Phan meditating, goofily dancing to the beat of her heart monitor in a hospital bed, and finally, an ultrasound and a heartbeat.

The clip begins and finishes with the pair embracing in bed on the day Phan discovered she was pregnant. “Today was a terrific day,” Scott, 43, says.

On their podcast At Home with Linda & Drew Scott, the couple also discussed their tough route to starting a family.

They attempted IUI (intrauterine insemination) first, which failed, and then IVF (in vitro fertilization), which was successful.

“For a while, I wasn’t sure how much I wanted to share, or if I wanted to share at all,” Phan says candidly to her husband about going public with their troubles. “Even with close family and friends, we didn’t tell them straight away because I needed to digest my feelings before diluting them with other people’s excitement.”

She admits that the long and frequently difficult journey to conceiving clouded her initial sentiments when realizing she was pregnant.

“It’s not that I wasn’t excited; it’s just that we got the news from our fertility doctor and it’s just not as I anticipated it,” she adds. “Not that that made it any less disappointing; I guess I just felt more relieved at first.”

Scott also talked about how he dealt with his personal excitement and tension over the two-year process.

“There’s something scary or unknown at every step of the way,” he says. “We have friends who have suffered miscarriages and other people who have attempted IVF many, many times” without success.

Finally, they agreed that it was worthwhile to share their tale if it made others in a similar circumstance feel less alienated or fearful.

“I think this provides a little bit more of a community of folks who have either been through the process, are about to go through the process, or have been having specific challenges to know, you’re not alone,” Scott says. “There are many of us who have had issues, and I believe that something like this should be discussed so that it is not as frightening. It becomes more relatable as a result.”

The pair also discussed how they wished they had emphasized their family and well-being more in the past when their attention was on an often-grueling work schedule.

“The one thing that I really sort of beat myself over now… is that I really let my work schedule influence what we do, even though I’d say family is most important and family comes first,” Scott adds. “It was Linda who brought it to my notice and suggested we should truly look at our lives and what’s important to us.”

Starting a family was always on the real estate expert’s to-do list, but it wasn’t a priority for a long time.

“I’ve known since I was a child that I wanted to have children. But then I got incredibly busy at work, and I really enjoy what I do. I enjoy assisting other families. But I realized that twelve years had passed since we’d put off starting our own family. I’m delighted we took that decision now, and that we have the resources to make it a reality.”

Phan adds, “We were able to help other families, which was very amazing, but you get wrapped up in that and then you forget about yourself.”
