West Indies storm Chris Gayle returns to the team after 18 Months.

Odiha News: The West Indies’ explosive opening batsman has returned to the team after a long 18 months. Chris Gayle who is 41 now, has been named among the 16-member squad for the upcoming T20I match series against Sri Lanka. Gayle made his last appearance for the West Indies team in August 2019. The T20 World Cup will be held this year. Gayle hopes to play well in the tournament. Even Chris Gayle will play for Kings XI Punjab in the IPL this time.

The T20 match against Sri Lanka and the West Indies will be played at the Antigua Coolis Cricket Stadium. The match will take place from March 3 to 7.Kiron Pollard will be the captain. With Gayle, bowler Fidel Edwards has returned to the team after 9 long years. He made his last appearance in 2012.

The Indies also included Andre Russell, Sunil Narayan, Simron Hetmeyer, Rosten Chase, Oshino Thomas, and Seldon Contrell. Russell is recovering from Covid. However, some of the other players did not pass the fitness test.

Notably, Gayle was playing for the Punjab Kings in the last IPL.

Christopher Henry Gayle was born on 21 September 1979 in Kingston, Jamaica. Gayle was of a very calm nature since childhood and this is clearly visible on his nature field as well. Gayle’s early times were very struggling for Gayle.

His father’s name was Dudley Gayle, a policeman, and his mother used to sell peanuts. Although Gayle played street cricket in his childhood, he was soon included in Lucas’s Jamaican club. And seeing his talent there, at the age of 19, a first-class debut was also made. And then, in the first class, too, he performed such that within a few months, he got the opportunity to play for the West Indies cricket team.

He played his first ODI against India on 11 September 1998. And after 6 months of his debut in ODIs, he was given a chance in a Test match. However, Chris Gayle could not live up to the performance that people were expecting. And that’s why Chris Gayle could not be confirmed his place in the team for the next 2 years. Further consolidating his place in the West Indies team in November 2002, he scored a brilliant century against India, one of the world’s strongest teams by the end of 2002. and after that, He started showing his ability.

Gayle has emerged as an even stronger player since his surgery in 2005. He was awarded the Player of the Champions Trophy for his outstanding performance in the 2006 Champion’s Trophy. The following year, in the ICC World T20 of 2007, he became the first batsman in the world to score a century in T20 by playing a brilliant inning of 117 runs against South Africa.

In the first season of IPL, KKR bought Chris Gayle, although he could not play in the first season of IPL because of the home match. And then, despite playing in IPL 2009 and 2010, he could not perform anything special. But in 2011, he got a chance to play for Royal Challengers Bangalore and scored a great century in the first match. After this, he scored another century in the same season and became the highest run-scorer in the 2011 IPL.
