Board of Control for Cricket in India President, Sourav Ganguly, said, “We have scheduled the White Ball series for the senior men’s team in July. The team will play ODI and T20 matches in Sri Lanka. Separate teams will be prepared for ODIs and T20s. This will not include players preparing for the Test series for the England tour.
The Indian Team schedule in England
The Indian team is all set to play the final of the World Test Championship against New Zealand from 18th to 22nd June. The test series against England will start on the 4th of August. In such a situation, the Indian team will remain in England and prepare for the five test series against England. The last test between India and England will end on September 14th, and so the Indian team tour of England.
Sri Lanka may have 5 T20 and three ODI series.
The Sri Lanka tour schedule has not been released yet, but it is believed that the team can play 5 T20 and three ODI there. The BCCI wants the players to be prepared before the T20 World Cup to be held in October. Since the Indian team has to play only five Test matches on the tour of England, in such a situation, players like Shikhar Dhawan, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar, Yuzvendra Chahal, who are not included in the Test series against England, should be ready before the World Cup.
Young players may get a Chance To play for Team India
According to a BCCI source, Board can try young players for the ODIs and T20 series on the Sri Lanka tour. Many of the top Indian players, including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, will not be in the squad due to the test series in England. In such a situation, BCCI can give young players a chance before the T20 international World Cup that is scheduled to take place in mid-October.
Ishaan Kishan, Rahul Tewatia, Suryakumar Yadav, who were included in Team India in the domestic T20 series against England and not part of the current team touring England, may get a chance. Suryakumar Yadav played 3 matches while Ishaan Kishan played 2 matches, and both made an impression with their game. But Rahul Tewatia did not get a chance to play in a single match of the T20 series against England.
Apart from this, the newly discovered IPL fast bowler Chetan Sakaria may get a chance to go to Sri Lanka. At the same time, Devdutt Padikkal, who had an impressive IPL and domestic season, may get a chance to make a debut for team India.
