E Sreedharan, from lecturer to Metro man to BJP CM candidate. A power-packed journey of 56 years

Odiha News: Metro Man of India Elattuvalapil Sreedharan or E Sreedharan was born on 12 June 1932 in Palakkad District, Kerala. He completed his schooling at the Basel Evangelical Mission School. India’s former Election commissioner T.N.Sesan was also the classmate of E Sreedharan. He has completed his education from Victoria College, Palghat, and Civil Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. For Sreedharan, the journey from a lecturer to becoming a metro man was very challenging.

As soon as he completed his engineering, he started teaching as a lecturer at Government Polytechnic Kozhikode. Along with that, he was also preparing for Engineering Services Examination. Finally, with his hard work and dedication, he joined IES as a Probationary Assistant Engineer in Southern Railway.

E Sreedharan Achievements

In December 1964, the Pamban Bridge in Tamil Nadu was completely broken due to a high-intensity cyclone. Sreedharan was made in charge of this bridge restoration. Railway authorities had kept this period of completion period of 6 months. The same Sreedharan’s boss ordered to complete it in just 3 months.

And he completed this work in half the time within just 46 days. The Indian Government also praised his brilliance. Became Chief Engineer of Kolkata Metro in 1970, where he completed the designing, planning, and implementation of the metro from his strategy. It is said that wherever he used to go, he used to bring a new ray of hope. As soon as the Kolkata metro project was successfully completed, he joined Cochin Shipyard Limited in October 1979, a non-performing agency then.

In 1981, he helped launch the first ship MB Rani Padmini with a non-performing agency. In 1987, he was made the General Manager of Western Railway. And after 2 years, he retired on 10 June 1990.

Even after retirement, Sreedharan was appointed for a project in Konkan Railways. It was a challenge for him because this project had 93 tunnels and 153 bridges. The biggest challenge was maximum part of the project was in soft soil. But Sreedharan also finished it within time and budget.

He was signed on a project that is today called India’s Most Successful Metro. He was the Managing Director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. Sreedharan did this project in budget and time and due to his success, he became a national celebrity.

E Sreedharan personal life

E.Sreedharan married Radha Sreedharan and The couple has four children eldest son Ramesh is one of the vice president at Tata Consultancy Services, daughter Shanthi Menon runs school in Bangalore, another son Achutha Menon is a doctor in UK and the youngest son M.Krishnadas who works at ABB India Limited. Radha Sreedharan is a housewife.

Political Career of E Sreedharan

Just before the assembly election in Kerala E Sreedharan joined Bharatiya Janata Party and BJP declared his as their CM candidate.
