Delhi moves to the top of the points table, RR at 5th position

Today in the IPL, two important matches were played. In which the first match was between Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Sunrisers Hyderabad today was playing for the first time with a new captain. In this season, Hyderabad management gave the captaincy to Kane Williamson from David Warner, thinking that the team’s performance will improve. But looking at today’s match, we can say that nothing of this sort happened.

Batting first, Rajasthan scored a mammoth score of 220 runs. Rajasthan opener Joss Butler scored 124 runs off just 64 balls with the help of 11 fours and 8 sixes. Rajasthan captain Sanju Samson scored 48 off 33 balls with the help of 4 fours and two sixes.

With these 124 runs now Jos Butler has moved to the seventh position in the highest run-scorer in IPL 2021. He has now scored 254 runs from 7 matches with an average of 36.28 and strike rate of 153.01. He is followed by MI captain Rohit Sharma who is now at 8th position.

Rashid Khan was the most successful bowler for Hyderabad, who managed to take one wicket for just 24 runs in his 4 overs. However, medium-pacer Sandeep Sharma proved to be the most expensive bowler, giving 50 runs in his four overs.

Chasing a target of 220 runs, the Hyderabad team started well, and on 57 runs, Hyderabad lost their first wicket in the form of Manish Pandey. But no Hyderabad batter could perform the way the management had hoped. And the entire team was all out after scoring 165 runs.

Mustafizur Rahman and Chris Morris took three wickets each for Rajasthan. Butler was awarded the Man of the Match award due to his brilliant performance.

In the second match played, Delhi defeated Punjab by 7 wickets.

Batting first, Punjab scored 166 runs in their 20 overs. Mayank Agarwal, captaining in the absence of today’s Rahul, played a brilliant innings, scoring 99 runs in 58 balls with the help of 8 fours and 4 sixes. Playing his first match, David Malan scored 26 runs. But no other batsman from Punjab could support his captain Mayank Agarwal, due to which Punjab was able to score only 166 runs.

Chasing the target, the Delhi team once again started off brilliantly. The pair of Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw added 63 runs for the first wicket in just 6 overs.

Shikhar Dhawan remained not out till the end and scored 69 runs. Delhi won the match with 14 balls to spare.

Mayank Agarwal was adjudged Man of the Match for his brilliant innings.

With this win, Delhi has just moved to the number one position in the points table, while after today’s win, Rajasthan has moved to the number 5 position.

Delhi has 12 points while Rajasthan has 8 points. It is now almost impossible for Sunrisers Hyderabad to qualify for the playoffs, or very difficult.

Tomorrow evening, Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore will face each other. This match will be very important for Kolkata Knight Riders as it will be very difficult for them to qualify in the play apps if Kolkata loses this match.

Change of Captain in halfway

This is not the first time that a team has changed its captain in the middle tournament.

Mumbai Indians replaced Rohit Sharma as their captain in 2013, replacing Ricky Ponting. However. It was Ricky Ponting’s own decision to step down from the captaincy, as the team under him was not performing so well. So he entrusted this responsibility to Rohit Sharma. And Rohit Sharma won the title for Mumbai Indians that season.

Similarly, due to his poor form in 2018 and after the team lost 6 matches, Delhi captain Gautam Gambhir gave up his captaincy and went out of the team himself. Delhi then chose the young Shreyas Iyer for the captaincy.

Similarly, this story has happened twice with Rajasthan. And both times Ajinkya Rahane and Steve Smith have been involved in the story of captaincy. Once Ajinkya was given the captaincy from Steve Smith after the bad performance of Rajasthan. In 2019, Steve Smith was given the captaincy from Ajinkya after the bad performance of RR.
