Cyclone Yaas is about to hit the state in 2 days. It is expected to hit Odisha and West Bengal on the 26th of May morning. However, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik called a review meeting on Saturday in view of the possible cyclone.
The chief minister will review the preparedness for the possible cyclone on Saturday. In addition, there will be discussion regarding issues that may arise due to cyclone.
The meeting will be attended by district collectors from 14 districts that may get affected by the cyclone. In addition, it is learned that the Chief Secretary, SRC and other officials will also attend the review meeting.
Due to the Covid Pandemic, a statewide lockdown is being observed from May 5th, and also vaccination drive is going on. In this condition, if cyclone yaas hits hard the state, then the incoming Vaccine and medicine supply may get affected.

Today, the 21st of May, 2021, the southwest monsoon has advanced into some parts of the southwest Bay of Bengal, most parts of the southeast Bay of Bengal, the south Andaman Sea and the Nicobar Islands, and some parts of the north Andaman Sea, due to the strengthening and deepening of southwesterly winds over the area and widespread rainfall activity.
Over the next 48 hours, conditions are improving for the southwest monsoon to advance into more parts of the southwest Bay of Bengal, the remaining parts of the southeast Bay of Bengal, the entire Andaman Sea and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and some parts of the central Bay of Bengal.”
